  Social Gathering and Grill Party:

The longest day of the year 2008, June the 21st was marked by NEPSA with grilling. The event, social gathering and grill party, was organised at Skogveien 29. This time the weather was in favor of NEPSA. During the whole event, all people were enjoying. The nice weather, nice grill food, and good mood of all participants made the gathering overall a pleasent experience to treasure.



 17th May Celebrated
 First the adverse weather put us in confusion, and we started to discuss should we grill or not? Finally, we did not let the momentarily changning weather defeat us, and NEPSA celebrated the 17th May as planned. The grilling was organised at ABC pentagon. Despite the depressing weather, all of the participants celebrated 17th May with charm and happiness. The celebration was overall successfull.

 NEW YEAR 2065 Celebrated
 NEPSA celebrated Nepali New Year 2065 on Sunday April the 13th at ABC hall Pentagon. More than 75 Nepalese, and some non-nepalese nationals were present in the program. The New Year celebration program started with the exchange of greetings for a successful, prosperous and peaceful new year. Cultural program took place after dinner. Both NEPSA members, and non-NEPSA members perfromed in the cultural program. Another entertainment program Bingo was conducted after cultural program. The final program was open dance floor where we could see people dancing beautifully in different musics.

Nepsa celebrated color festival, Holi on March 22, 2008 at ABC Hall in Pentagon. More than 80 Norwegian and international students, their families, and UMB staffs participated the event. During the occasion, everyone smeared red vermilion powder (abeer) on each other's face. We could observe dance steps in Nepali folk music even by non-Nepalese students. The Nepalese food, rice pudding (khir), deep oil fried bread (puri), vegetable (tarkari) and pickle (achar) were so much liked by the participants. Click here for photos
 AGM 2008
Annual General Meeting of NEPSA was held on 31 January 2008. The AGM elected new executive committee for the year 2008. The new EC member constitute of following members.

The AGM also amended NEPSA constitution with minor changes.
During the same occassion, Dr. Chhatra Mani Sharma was honored by NEPSA for his sucessful completion of PhD.
              

Congratulation

Nepsa congratulates Chhatra Mani Sharma for the sucessful completion of his PhD. Dr. Sharma defended his PhD thesis on 22 January 2008. His thesis title was 'Manipulation of a top predator, the northern pike (Esox lucius L), in Lake Årungen; cascading effects on resource use, population densities and pollutants levels in fish community'. Christmas and New year 2008 party

Nepsa organized Christmas and New year 2008 party at Pentagon ABC hall on 29 December, 2007. More than 75 NEPSA members and inter/national students participated in the program. The program started with introduction, greetings, food and entertainment. On the same occassion, Dr. Bharat M Shrestha was honored by NEPSA for successful completion of his PhD. All the participants enjoyed Nepali food and music.

Congratulation

Nepsa congratulates Bharat Man Shrestha for the sucessful completion of his PhD. Dr. Shrestha defended his PhD thesis on 30 November 2007. His thesis title was 'Land use and land use changes effects on organic carbon pools, soil aggregate associated carbon and soil organic matter quality in a watershed of Nepal'. Dashain 2064 celebrated

Nepsa celebrated Dashain 2064 at Samfunnet, Aas, Norway. More than 65 participants from different places in Norway gathered for the celebration. Participants got Dashain Tika and Jamara from Krishna Raj Tiwari, eldest person on the occassion. The program followed with Tika, delicious meal, cultural program by children. bingo game and dance & music.

Dashain 2007 update

NEPSA has decided on following program for the Dashain celebration.

Program
17:00-17:30 Welcome, registration and gathering for the celebration
17:30-18:00 Tika and Jamara
18:00-19:00 Food (Food consists of cold fish and meat, warm meat and fish (chicken and lamb), some vegetarian dishes (only for vegetarian), Rice dishes, Dessert, Milk, Juice, Coffee and Tea)
19:00-19:30 Children program (Dance, music, jokes)
19:30-20:30 Bingo game 20:00-22:30 Entertainment (Music, Dance ?)
The contribution for the celebration is as follows (Entrance and price for food as charged by Samfunnet)
1. NEPSA adult members: NOK 150
2. NEPSA school going children: NOK 50
3. Non-members adult: NOK 180
4. Non-members school going children: NOK 75
5. Small children (born after 2002): Free
Note: NEPSA has contributed small amount to NEPSA members.

NEPSA wishes Happy Dashain as expressed in Nepali text in the above picture. NEPSA is celebrating Nepalese great festival Dashain on 21 October 2007 at Aas. We would like to welcome you all to celebrate this festival together. Please inform all Nepalese or other nationalities who are interested to celebrate this festival with us. We will update details of the celebration as soon as we decide on venue and menu for the celebration. We hope this Dashain celebration with you will be a great and memorable one.

 Congratulation

Nepsa congratulates Deepak Kumar Rijal for the sucessful completion of his PhD. Dr. Rijal defended his PhD thesis on 20 August 2007. His thesis title was 'On-farm Conservation and Use of Local Crop Diversity: Adaptations of taro (Colocasia esculenta) and rice (Oryza sativa) diversity to varying ecosystems of Nepal'.
Few facts of Nepsa

Currently (August 2007), total members in the society are 73. Among the members, 8 are PhD, 11 are Master and 6 are Bachelor students. 14 families of Nepsa members are in Ås with 24 children. Nepsa has one honorary member.

 NLS Tour

On 21 July, Nepali Language School organized educational tour to Technical Museum and Vigiland Park in Oslo. Students were guided by their teachers and parents during the visit. To know more about the place and activities performed, please click the photo.

Talk Program

On 29 June 2007, NEPSA organized a talk program on "Current political scenario of Nepal" at Festsalen U218 (Clock Building), UMB, Ås. The guest speaker was Dr. Babu Ram Bhattarai, leader- CPN (Maoist). He also highlighted on the peace building and development challenges on current political scenarios. Nepalese, Norwegians and other nationalities participated during the program. After the program, all the participants were offered dinner prepared by NEPSA members at Skogveien 24. Participants were seen in interaction even during the dinner time.

 

 NLS Graduation

The Nepali Language School (NLS) organized graduation ceremony of the year on Saturday 16th June 2007. Students performed dance, play and songs during the event. The graduates were honoured with their grade certificates. On the same moment, NEPSA honoured Rinjan Shrestha for his sucessful completion of his PhD. Dr. Shrestha shared his experiences afterwards. All the members and guests participated in the grill party organized by NEPSA in the evening. NLS thanks Shradha Khatiwada and Prakriti Tiwari for the arrangements of cultural program.

Congratulation

Nepsa congratulates Rinjan Shrestha for the sucessful completion of his PhD. Dr. Shrestha defended his PhD thesis on 7 June 2007. His thesis title was 'Coexistence of wild and domestic ungulates in the Nepalese Trans-Himalaya: Resource competition or habitat partitioning?'.  Farewell

Nepsa organized an interaction and farewell program on 30 May 2007 at Noragric, UMB. During the program, Prof. Ram P Chaudhary was the chief guest. Prof. Chaudhary visited UMB for short period and presented a talk program on medicinal plants of Nepal on 1 June 2007.

Nepsa also presented farewell to Dr. Narendra MB Pradhan and his family, Mrs. Mina Tiwari and her family, who are leaving to Nepal on 1 June 2007. The grill party scheduled for the day was canceled due to weather condition.

Nepsa congratulates Narendra Man Babu Pradhan for the sucessful completion of his PhD. Dr. Pradhan defended his PhD thesis on 24 May 2007. His thesis title was on 'An ecological study of a re-colonizing population of Asian elephant (Elephas maximus) in lowland Nepal'. NEPSA celebrated Norway's Constitution Day on Thursday May 17, 2007 at Skogvein from 17:00. The celebration was followed with barbeque party.

New Year 2064 celebrated

 

Nepsa celebrated Nepali New Year 2064 on Friday April 13, 2007 at ABC Hall, Pentagon. During the celebration, Nepsa served Nepali food and non alcoholic drinks. Children performed fun filled dance and music programs. Musical chair for children and Bingo game for others was held during the ocassion. Everyone participated in dance program after the dinner and games.

Condolence & contribution

Nepsa express condolence on the death of Prem Gurung and wish for peace reset of his soul. Late Prem Gurung was from Kathmandu and working in Oslo, Norway. Nepsa handover Rs. 27100 to Gurung's family, which was the collection contributed by NEPSA members.

Congratulation

Nepsa congratulates Dr. Bishal Sitaula for his Professorship achievement. Prof. Sitaula is working in the Department of International Environment and Development Studies, UMB since 2003. Prof. Situala is also helping Nepalese for carrier development through research and developmental activities.

On March 3, 2007, Nepali Society in Ås (NEPSA) organized Holi festival at ABC Hall in Pentagon. More than 100 Norwegian and international students, their families, and some UMB staffs participated the event. During the occasion, everyone smeared red vermilion powder (abeer) on each other's face. We could observe dance steps in Nepali folk music even by non-Nepalese students.  NEPSA honoured Dept. of International Environment and Development Studies, Noragric for its contribution in human resource development in Nepal. On the occassion, Prof. Ruth Haugh highlighted the Noragric contribution in human development in developing countries. More than sixty students have already graduated from Noragric.
 Fourth AGM: Fourth  annual general meeting of NEPSA was organised on 22 December 2006. The AGM has elected Mrs. Mina Adhikari, Nandakaji Budhathoki, Ramesh Mainali as the president, Secretary, and Treasurer respectively along with three executive members: Kanchan Karki and Nirjala Pachhai, and substitute member Mahesh K. C. The AGM has amended constitution and change the composition of executive committee with five members and one substitute.

 Helping Nepalese Children

NEPSA celebrated Tihar on 22 October, 2006 at Skogvein 24. During the occassion, NEPSA members were served with 'Sel roti', 'puri', 'tarkari', 'achar' with 'Nepali tea'. On the same occassion, students of Nepali School performed 'Deusi' and raised NOK 1650. The sum was sent to Nepal through Operation Days Work (OD in Norwegian).

 On Monday, 2 October 2006 NEPSA celebrated Dashain at Aas, Norway. The event started with the Tika and Jamara (by senior member of NEPSA, Dr. Bishal Kumar Sitaula) and exhange of best wishes from the participants. This event was attended by 92 participants (Nepalis and other nationals). The Tika was followed by the dinner and entertainment programme.  On 15 September 2006, Nepali Language School under NEPSA organized school graduation program. The program was organized at Åsgård skole, Ås from 1700-1900. During the program, students were honoured with certificates and gifts. Nepali children also performed cultural program. Parents and friends of Nepali children were also invited during the program. Nepali Language School also announced the principal, teachers, and program for next school semester. Click here for pictures

 TALK PROGRAM

On 1 September 2006, NEPSA organized a talk program on "Conflict-Peace-Development" by professors from Tribhuvan University: Dr Ramesh Kunwar, Dr Ram Chhetri, and Dr Chandra Lal Shrestha. They arrived at Ås in connection with a workshop on Institutional collaboration in Master's Degree Programme in ‘Conflict management, peacebuilding and development', organized by Noragric, UMB, Norway. During the program, NEPSA members  discussed on different aspects of conflicts existing in the country.

TEEJ 2006

NEPSA organized ‘Dar khane' program for all the NEPSA members and other women interested in Nepali women's festival -Teej. The program was organized in Skogvein 24.

 PICNIC 2006On 20 August 2006, NEPSA organized picnic to its members. NEPSA also welcome new students from Nepal at UMB. Members participate in games, music and dance program and made the event memorable one.

 

Teej Festival
Teej is a special festival for women who are supposed to fast all day and bathe in the holy waters of the rivers. Dancing, singing folk songs and the red coloured sari are typical of the day. Red is a symbol of joy and happiness in Nepal and used for marriage ceremonies. The days recall the heavenly occasion God's marriage after severe meditation and fasting. It is believed that the celebrator's married life will be long and happy and will have long and good relationship between their partners.

 Talk Program

On 28 Jyly 2006, NEPSA organized a talk program on "The legal aspects of current political situation in Nepal" by Prof. Dr. Surya Subedi, Professor of International Law at University of Leeds, the UK.
During the program, NEPSA members also discussed on NRN issues with Dr. Subedi. Before the talk program, a grill party at Skogvein 29 was organized so that NEPSA members could interact with Dr. Subedi and his family.

On 7 July 2006, a Fish grill party was organized at Skogvein 29. The party item 'Fish' was offered by Mr. Chhatra Mani Sharma.

NEPSA womens group organized a picnic on May 26. Different "Chaurasi byanjan" 84 food items were served along with different games. PICNIC PICTURES

NEPSA celebrated Norwegian Constitution Day. It also ogranized grill party at Skogveinen 29 from 17:00-20:00. All inter/national students were invited to join the party to develop friendship among all nationalities. The weather challenged not to organized the grill party but could not stop NEPSA. 

On 6 May 2006, Nepali School organized an excursion to Østfoldbadet badeland, Askim. Seventeen children and fourteen teachers/parents participated in the trip. Click the excursion link at left for some of the pictures of the day.

On Friday, 28 April 2006, NEPSA organized a talk program on "Community approaches for livelihood and biodiversity conservation ". The talk was given by Dr. Pratap Kumar Shrestha who is the Executive Director of LI-BIRD, Nepal.

On 24 April 2006, NEPSA has organized a talk program on "Challenges of Higher Education System in current situation". The talk was delivered by Prof. Govind P. Sharma,Vice Chancellor of Tribhuvan University, Nepal . During the same occassion, NEPSA launched its web page formally. The vice chancellor clicked the NEPSA logo and launched the page. NEPSA also honour its members Dadhi Ram Adhikari, Bharat Man Shrestha, Chhatra Mani Sharma, Dilip Pachhai, Dilli Raj Upadhyay, Kabita Sharma, Kumar Pandit, Laxmi Silwal, Pramita Tiwari, Puspa Raj Tiwari, Rabina G Rasaily, and Ram Chandra Nepal during the same function. After the function grill party was organized.

Nepalese and other foreign friends contributed NOK 7777.00 (Rs. 88,250.49) for the treatment of injured people during the pro-democracy demonstration in Nepal. The amount was collected and transferred by NEPSA to Janandolan Primary Health Treatment Fund A/C: 7752140 (c/o Kathmandu Model Hospital, Nepal) on 20 April 2006.
